How to Verify a Florida Apostille

1. Check the Apostille Document

    

   • It must say: “APOSTILLE (Convention de La Haya del 5 de octubre de 1961)” at the top.

   • Issued by the Florida Department of State – Tallahassee.

   • Includes the name of the official who signed, their title, date of issuance, and the official seal.

    

2. Look for the Reference Number

    

   • Every Florida apostille has a unique certification number that can be traced with the Florida Department of State.

    

3. Verify the Apostille with the State

    

   • Contact the Florida Department of State – Division of Corporations (Apostille Section) to confirm authenticity.

4. Verify the Notary Public (if notarized document)

    

   • Go to the Florida Department of State Notary Search tool.

   • Enter the notary’s name or commission number to confirm they are active and authorized.

   • Make sure the notary’s signature and seal match what appears on the document.

    

5. Red Flags of a Fake Apostille

    

   • Missing the State Seal of Florida.

   • No signature from the Secretary of State or designated officer.

   • Notary cannot be found in the Florida Notary Public registry.
