Remote Online Notarization with Biometric Verification

Miami Dade Apostille offers remote online notarization with biometric identity verification, including appointments for eligible signers without a Social Security number. If another online notary platform stopped you at its identity questions, contact us about a biometric appointment.

You still complete identity checks and meet with the notary online. We help you understand what to prepare so you can approach the session with the right identification and document.

What is biometric verification in online notarization?

Biometric verification uses characteristics associated with a person to help establish identity. In an online notarization, it is part of the identity-verification process; it does not replace the notarial act or make a document automatically acceptable to its recipient.

Florida law expressly includes biometric verification within its definition of identity proofing. The notary must still follow the applicable online-notarization and identification requirements. (Florida Statutes §117.201(7)–(8); §117.265)

Our appointment instructions explain the checks required for your session. Do not assume that every service using the word "biometric" follows the same steps or accepts the same identification.

How it differs from knowledge-based questions

Knowledge-based authentication, often called KBA, uses questions drawn from information associated with a person's identity or history. Biometric verification is a different method of establishing identity. (Florida Statutes §117.201)

A signer without sufficient U.S. records may struggle with a history-based process, and another signer may be unable to answer the questions presented. If that happened to you, ask about our biometric service rather than guessing or supplying inaccurate information.

Our service is an alternative appointment route for eligible clients, not a promise to bypass another provider's controls or eliminate every other verification requirement.

What you still need

Identification that qualifies for your session

Tell us your ID type and issuing country before booking. Whether a credential is acceptable depends on the applicable rules and the verification process used for your appointment. Biometrics does not mean identification is optional.

A document ready for the intended notarial act

Have the recipient's instructions available, including any certificate, witness or format requirements. Check that the recipient accepts remote online notarization and electronic signing. A valid identity check does not establish that the document itself is suitable.

A working live connection

Prepare a device with a camera and microphone and a reliable internet connection. Use a place where you can communicate clearly and follow the session instructions. Ask before adding an interpreter or another participant.

Your actual signing location

Tell us where you will physically be during the appointment. For a Florida online notarization, the notary is physically in Florida; the signer can be elsewhere under the applicable requirements. (Florida Statutes §117.265)

For more detail on signing from abroad, see our page on remote online notarization for non-U.S. citizens and remote online notarization outside the United States.

From first inquiry to completed session

  1. Describe what you need. Send your document type, signing country and ID type/issuing country. If you were stopped elsewhere, explain whether the problem involved an SSN request, identity questions, ID verification or account access. Do not send passwords, full ID numbers or passport images in the initial inquiry.
  2. Confirm the session requirements. We review the service requirements for your document, location and identification. Ask which checks apply and how to prepare before booking. Do not assume that a previous platform's instructions apply to this appointment.
  3. Follow the identity-verification instructions. Complete the required steps through the process provided for your session. Submit accurate information and use your own identification. If something fails or is unclear, ask for assistance rather than repeatedly changing details.
  4. Meet the notary online. Attend the live audio-video session and complete the signing steps as instructed. The notary must be satisfied that the applicable requirements are met before completing the act. A Florida online notarial session is recorded as required by law. (Florida Statutes §117.265)
  5. Use the completed document in the required format. Follow the recipient's submission instructions. If it also needs an apostille or another authentication, arrange that separately; biometric verification and notarization do not issue an apostille. (Florida DOS Apostille FAQ)

Privacy questions are welcome before you proceed

Biometric verification involves personal identity information. Before starting, review the notices and terms supplied for the actual verification service. Ask how the process works and where to find information about data handling, retention and your available choices.

We do not describe biometric checks as anonymous or promise that no records are kept. Do not send identity documents through an unconfirmed link or general initial message. Use the channel provided for your appointment.
